Whenever you install any WordPress, you will get a by default plugin called “Hello Dolly”. Although, this plugin is a bit exciting, but doesn’t really come with a good description.

Creator, Matt Mullenweg says about this plugin,

“This is not just a plugin, it symbolizes the hope and enthusiasm of an entire generation summed up in two words sung most famously by Louis Armstrong: Hello, Dolly. When activated you will randomly see a lyric from Hello, Dolly in the upper right of your admin screen on every page.”

History of Hello Dolly Plugin

The Hello Dolly plugin was created by Matt Mullenweg, who is a co-founder of WordPress. It was initially introduced in May’ 2004. This was also when WordPress 1.2 introduced the first plugin architecture for WordPress.

Ever since it was created, every version of WordPress installed has come with Hello Dolly pre-installed.

The plugin “Hello Dolly” has been translated into 43 locales.

The creator of this plugin, Mr. Matt Mullenweg, had also created below plugins as well for WordPress.

What is the use of this Plugin?

Well, “Hello Dolly” is a simple WordPress plugin that comes pre-installed as and when you install WordPress. If you activate the plugin, it will display different lyrics every time you logged in your admin page.

If you check out for description of this plugin, it doesn’t explain much about the usefulness of this plugin. I never activate this plugin in any of my WordPress website though, since I do not find any usefulness of this plugin.

Should we delete “Hello Dolly” plugin or not?

Though, I do not find any use of this plugin, but it is up to you whether you want to delete or not.

For your information, it is quite a small plugin and do not consume much space on the disk.

Though, it is always recommended to delete all unutilized plugins in your website / blog in order to get a better performance.
