What is a Webpage?

A Webpage is a simple and single document on the internet having a unique URL displayable by a browser. It is written in an HTML language. All Webpages available on the internet are reachable through a unique web address. You can access any Webpage by typing the unique URL in the address search bar in your web browser.

Salient Features of a Webpage

The following are the salient features of the webpage:

  • A Webpage contains several topics linked to the website since it is a part of a website
  • Multiple web pages can use the same name (title name), but they should locate in different documents having different unique URLs.
  • Webpages take less time to develop when compare with the website.
  • A webpage is relatively easy to develop than a Website.

What is a Website?

A Website is a collection of multiple Webpages (along with their associated resources) that share a unique domain name. Each Webpage of a given Website provides open links. Often time in the form of the clickable portion of a text allows users to direct from one Webpage of the website to another Webpage.

You can access any website by typing its unique domain name in the address search bar in your web browser. It is called as Website’s homepage (also referred to as “The home”).

  • Multiple Webpages may have the same domain name until they reside in different documents, whereas the Website must have a unique URL.

  • Website is an address used to display the content. On the other hand, a Webpage having content that is to be displayed on the Website.

  • A Website has no extension whereas a Webpage has a URL along with an extension including HTM, Html, PHP, etc.

  • Webpage address always contains the domain name in it. On the contrary, a website does not have any relation to a Webpage address.

  • The process of design and development of the webpage is less, whereas to develop a Website takes much more time than the Webpage.

Conclusion

You can distinguish the difference between Webpage and Website with a simple example.

Let’s consider a book as a website; the book is having different pages with serial numbers on every page, which is unique and can be referred to as the Webpages with a unique URL.

Another example for understanding the difference between a Webpage and a Website, is our Website. Here, the domain https://www.peterjosephblog.com is a website, whereas the page we are currently reading (https://www.peterjosephblog.com/what-is-the-difference-between-webpage-and-website/) is a webpage. Precisely, a webpage is just a specific page of a Website, and a Website is a combination of multiple Webpages.
