Remember Samsung’s smart speakers, the Galaxy Home? You’ll be excused if you say no, but Samsung appears to be planning another assault on them. Samsung is working on a new Galaxy Home Mini 2 speaker, according to Max Jambor on Twitter.

Samsung has only released two smart speakers so far: the Galaxy Home and Galaxy Home Mini. They’re both powered by Samsung’s Bixby personal assistant, but they’ve never been available for purchase.

The Galaxy Home Mini was available in South Korea with the purchase of a Galaxy S20, but that was it. Despite this, it appears that Samsung will continue to sell its own smart speaker.

 Because Samsung hasn’t revealed many technical specifics about the Galaxy Home Mini, nothing is known about its audio capabilities. Given that it’s a Bixby-powered smart speaker, it’ll almost certainly include far-field voice recognition and SmartThings device control.

The Galaxy Home Mini does have one unique feature that most smart speakers lack. To cover all IR ranges, it features four infrared remote transmitters and receivers. This implies that the Galaxy Home Mini can control any infrared-compatible gadget or appliance, regardless of brand. There is no need for a wireless connection between the speaker and the appliances because this works solely on IR.

Pricing and availability of Samsung Galaxy Home Mini Speaker

Samsung has yet to announce a global launch date for the Galaxy Home Mini. In South Korea, it did offer the speaker as a pre-order bonus for the Galaxy S20. Samsung has no plans to offer the Galaxy Home Mini separately, according to a company official.

Unfortunately, both of its smart speakers are still out of reach for the majority of customers. Samsung has been tight-lipped about when they’ll be available. One can only hope that the corporation resolves this issue as quickly as possible.
