Gmail is one of the most and widely used email service platforms by Google. There will be no difference at all, whether you are using a personal Gmail account or you have a Google Apps for Business Gmail account, Gmail handles all your email messages in the same way for both types of accounts, and forever. So, your email will be secure with Gmail till you live on this earth and even more…!!!
Every email that arrives in your Gmail inbox will be there forever unless you manually delete it. Gmail also offers an alternative to keep all your important emails in an archive folder forever, so to keep your inbox clean and clear. These emails can easily accessible by the users as and when they called up through search in the future.
Also, when you are running out of space of your storage limit in Gmail; your emails remain to save in your inbox or archive.
Table of Contents
If you are using a personal Gmail account, you will get 10 MB of storage space, which includes your spam and trash folder messages, whereas if you use Google Apps for Business account, you will get 25 MB storage space.
Each and every email in your inbox or in the archive labelled “All Mail” will stay forever until and unless you delete it manually for yourself. Gmail never deletes any message on its own from any of these folders. If you are running out of storage limit, Gmail will alert you so you can delete unnecessary files and messages.
There is no need to worry about your Gmail messages, since they remain there forever, no matter how old a message is. However, every message will count against your total storage limit.
The archive messages will move from your inbox and stay to the “All mail” label of your mailbox. It can be easily accessed by search.
To see how much storage space you have left, go to Google.com and click on your profile image on the top right of the screen and then click “Manage your Google account” or else go to https://myaccount.google.com
Now, scroll the page a little down; and you will find the “Account Storage” section, wherein you will see how much storage you had used.
The simplest way to get free Gmail storage is to delete every unnecessary email from your inbox.
Also, keep a regular check of your Promotions and Social tab emails, and get them deleted at regular intervals.
Once you delete any email from your inbox, it will go to your trash folder.
The emails that are lying in the trash folder for more than 30 days will be automatically deleted by Gmail. The same strategy will apply to the spam folder. To speed up your mailbox and keep your Google storage clear and clean, you need to check your spam and inbox folder and get unnecessary email messages deleted at a regular interval.
Deleting emails at a regular interval is a useful way of freeing up the storage limit in Gmail. Also, if an email goes into your spam folder, it will automatically delete after 30 days by Gmail. So, you must keep a regular check on your spam folder as well to ensure that no genuine messages will be avoided.
If a user didn’t log in to their account for over a period of 03 months (it is a default setting by Google, you can customize it for up to 18 months), Gmail reserves the right to delete such account due to its inactiveness.
Make sure that you regularly log in to your Gmail account, as it will ensure that your emails are secure with Gmail since if you remain inactive for more than three months (or waiting period set by you), your emails messages might be at risk.
However, Google also offers an Inactive Account Manager feature, which will enable you to specify a list of trusted contacts that can access and download your messages along with other content from Google products after a specific period of inactivity.
You can customize the inactive period by visiting the “Inactive Account Manager” page.
The new Inactive Account Manager can be accessed by login into https://myaccount.google.com and enter “Inactive Account Manager” in the search bar on top of the screen and enter.
Once selected, click “Start” to proceed…
You can customize your inactive period by click on the pencil icon under the “Decide when Google should consider your Google Account Inactive” section. You can set your inactive period for 18 months maximum.
Google will get in touch with you before a month when your inactive period will get over. They also send you multiple SMS and emails before taking any action. Make sure that you mention your contact details so Google can send you a warning SMS.
Also, you can manage your contacts by click on “Manage Contact Email” and add a list of trusted contacts who can access and download your messages and other content from Google after your account has become inactive.
Google will back up your emails message in their system, so you can always have a chance to restore your permanently deleted messages, either by you or automatically by Gmail from spam or trash folders.
The messages will remain on Google’s server for up to 60 days, and additionally, Gmail keeps back up in offline storage to ensure your deleted messages remain there forever.
