Instagram is an ultimate virtual connector with the people you admire the most, you can connect with your friends and relatives regularly, sharing images with them, comments on their posts, and much more. But sometimes this social media platform becomes a curse for several reasons, and people want to get rid of it. If you feel the same right now and land to this article to search about, how do you delete an Instagram account? Then, you are at the right place, we’ll guide you through the entire process as to how you can delete your Instagram account.
Before taking you any further, let me update you that there are two options to disappear from this social media platform, either you can temporarily delete your account, or permanently.
Table of Contents
The main difference is that deleting your account permanently will erase your photos, comments, likes, friendships, followers, chats, along with all other data will be removed permanently and will not be recovered in the future. Also, if you decide to create an Instagram account in the future, you can be able to do so but not with the same username.
Whereas, if you go with the temporary deletion, your data will be invisible for other users, but all of your content will be safe and you can access your account whenever you decide to come back. Though, you can keep your account temporarily disabled as long as you like. You can reactivate your account anytime and when you decide to come back. All you need to do is to log in with your username and password.
One more important thing that I would like to update that you cannot disable your account more than once a week. Meaning that if you decided to temporarily delete your account and the very next day you decide to reactivate the same account. Fine, you can go for it. But if again you will try to delete your account within a week, you cannot be able to do so, you have to wait for a week time.
Not at all, because Instagram keeps your data secure when you decide to temporarily disable your account, it can be restored as and when you decide to come back including your followers.
Though, your account will keep disappearing until you decide to reactivate it. The list of your followers is also hidden and they cannot be able to unfollow you until you come back to the platform again.
They couldn’t be able to find your account, since it is hidden and therefore, they won’t be able to find your account and unfollow you.
Note: To delete your Instagram account, you will need to use a desktop web browser or open a web browser on your smartphone. You can’t be able to proceed through the mobile app.
Step 1: Open your web browser and log in to your Instagram account.
Step 2: Once you log in, go to the Account deletion page and select a reason from the drop-down menu, as to why you want to delete your account?
Step 3: Once selected, you will be prompted to enter your password again. Also, you will be informed that your profile and data will be hidden for the next 30 days, and it will be erased once this 30-day period is over. Though, you can decide to come back within the stipulated time and continue with your Instagram account as you did earlier.
You can click the “Delete {Your username}” button to permanently deletion of your account.
Note: To disable (temporary delete) your Instagram account, you will need to use a desktop web browser or open a web browser on your smartphone. You can’t be able to proceed through the mobile app.
Step 1: Open your web browser and log in to your Instagram account.
Step 2: Move your cursor to your account’s profile photo and click on it.
Step 3: Now, click on “Edit Profile” and continue.
Step 4: You will be directed to the below page, at the bottom of the page, you will find an option “Temporarily disable my account”, click on it.
Step 5: Now, you need to select a reason to disable your account and re-enter your password. Finally, click on “Temporarily Disable Account”. Your account will be deactivated and remain deactivate until you decide to reactivate it. Though, it may take a couple of hours to take effect.
Now you know how to process both the options, choose wisely whether you want to disable or delete your Instagram account. The main difference between the two options is that deleting your Instagram account is permanent while deactivating is temporary and lets you activate your account as and when you require.
